Star Trek Federation Computer Now Controls Your Living Room Lighting

Friday, February 26th, 2010 | Uncategorized | Comments Off

Well it can’t be put more simply that groping around in the darkness for a light switch is not a pleasant experience and can sometimes really hurt, but this Star Trek styled, voice activated light switch and dimmer promises to eliminate this problem all together. Because unlike the switches of old you don’t even have to touch the switch, just mumble a few commands to the federation computer and voila! there shall be light.

Image

The Star Trek dimmer gives the user complete control of the lighting in a room by offering three levels of light adjustment that can all be activated by voice command. But the icing on the cake would definitely be that the switch cum dimmer confirms your commands in the voice of Majel Barret- Roddenberry, the original voice of the federation computer; thus giving you a surreal feeling of being aboard the Starship Enterprise. Setting it up is also very easy and the module will even guide you through the setup process.Image

But if you really want to get into the Star Trek mind-frame try sitting down in Captain Kirk’s chair and then command the dimmer. As for the price $69.99 seams to be a pretty fair deal for the product being offered, and is a must buy for any star trek fan.

Thursday, January 28th, 2010 | Uncategorized | Comments Off

We all own many different cool gadgets and items that are important to us either for the utility they provide or perhaps because of an intimate or personal reason. Whatever the reason is, we really hate it when someone comes and touches our personal belongings and worst yet..steals them.

In order to avoid such mishaps and unfortunate events, we have gathered here a great collection of different Anti Theft Gadgets and Bizarre Designs that are meant to help individuals make their devices and belongings less attractive, appealing or desired to a normal bystander. Moreover, there are a few security gadgets and projects that may also interest the more techy of you, who may be looking for some new gizmos to own or security diy to built.

The following aren’t guaranteed to deter thieves or work colleagues from getting at your gadgets but are meant as an additional things to make them think a second time before getting at your personal stuff.

1. Anti Theft Lunch Bags

These amazing sandwich bags are a sure way to keep any co-workers from getting into your lunch.

As if any introduction is needed, some individuals at work are rude enough to touch, get into or even treat themselves to your lunch. I am not sure what drives these folks into allowing themselves to eat someone else’s food without permission, but unfortunately these few do actually exist.

In order to battle them when you cannot install a video camera inside the refrigerator, these Anti Theft Bags could really do the trick. The Sandwich bags contain green splotch marks on both sides of the bag, so when a sandwich is packed in there, it looks as if it is old and rotten.

The design itself is amazing, but it does have a few possible downfalls such as a different person throwing your lunch in the garbage because of the color, or the coworker decides to take an additional step and investigate your lunch.

Home speakers were once ugly, boxy things that you hid away from sight because they did nothing for your décor. But smart designers have been working to make the home audio speaker an attractive part of whatever room it’s in, and some of their designs are positively unbelievable.

The Grand Enigma

The Grand Enigma from Kharma may just look like a wall of speakers, but they’re a little more than that. Like, a million dollars more than that. Yes, the above setup is the world’s most expensive set of speakers, and there’s only one of its kind. You’d have to be a truly hard-core audiophile to drop a million bucks on a sound system.

Soundshelf

When you have a small space to work with, single-functionality items just won’t do. Everything in a small space should do at least double duty to maximize the area. These speakers/bookshelves do that in the most delightful way, by combining music, books and sweet design (three of our favorite things) while saving floor space. Created by Polish designers Witek Stefaniak and Anielka Zdanowicz, these awesome speakers are sadly only a concept for now.

Bandai Diorama Speaker

If your goal is to actually draw attention to your speakers rather than hide them, you couldn’t find a more perfect product. This limited-edition speaker from Bandai (of Power Rangers fame) features a very noticeable plastic model of 1955 Ginza on top. For about $2230, this is obviously the best choice for classy ladies and gentlemen everywhere.

Equalizer Speaker

Let us go on record as saying that if these speakers ever became commercially available, we would walk barefoot over hot coals to get one. The familiar equalizer design lets you adjust the individual audio levels to your personal preference, and in a fun tactile way. Each slider is a speaker, lending a fantastic aesthetic quality to an otherwise sort of mundane activity.

Zimku Floor Speakers by Parrot

Parrot is already known for their wireless headphones, but recently they branched out and joined forces with designer Philippe Starck to come up with these sophisticated-looking tower speakers. They are designed to be used in pairs and connect to each other wirelessly via Bluetooth. But even better is their wi-fi capability, making them able to stream music from your computer or cell phone. Or if you’d prefer, pop that iPhone or iPod onto the integrated dock. Their $1500 price tag suggests that you might want to be pretty serious about your music before lusting after the Zimku speakers.

Keeping in Touch – Get it?

Sunday, December 13th, 2009 | Uncategorized | Comments Off

This project right here is called the “Squibble Portable Braille Interface” and it’s basically a text-message machine for the seeing-impared. Or if you’re able to read Braille, you’re in luck because this’d be an amazing pocket-chatter. Love the implications!

My friend Eric taught in Dubai a few years ago and said that his students had become so adept at the keypads on their phones that they’d begun to be able to text in their pockets or behind their backs, without looking! This machine right here would have a step up on them, as the user of this would also be able to READ behind their back. Super fab!

This device works with both braille characters and other easily recognizable symbols on a unique grid of tactile dots. Each dot works in tangent with the rest to present a rather excellent interactive keypad. The pad also works with high-contrast coloring to aid in learning if the user is gradually losing sight.

Replaceable silicone covers.

Fashionable.

Currently being studied and developed for production.
