Friday, February 26th, 2010 | Uncategorized | Comments Off

We all love the different entertaining electronics we own, especially our computers and our favorite video game consoles, but for some odd reason, they are still just not cool enough for a few individuals, so they end up creating some crazy mods.

It seems that as good looking as the PS3 is, as cool as the Xbox 360 is made and as customized as a PC Case could be, it is not sufficient for some. In turn, these modders end up building various PS3 Mods, Xbox 360 consoles, Nintendo and PC case mods and many more variations that may seem a little crazy at first, but end up being true masterpieces.

The bottom line is, being a gamer is not just for playing PC or video games anymore, and to prove so, we have gathered an awesome collection of the absolutely 32 Best Mods that we saw in 2009 which include examples using the PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo, PC and Macs.

If there are any that we missed, please share with us in the comments, so everyone will see as well.

This beautiful Steampunk PS3 Mod was made without taking it apart and thus voiding the warranty. All attachments were added with a vintage style that include an old radio valve, a pipe valve, a pressure gauge, assorted brass plumbing parts and some trim. The wood veneer was then aged with a few coats of varnish to give it the final touch.

In the end, the result is just phenomenal!

2. Alien Playstation 3

A scary and heavy looking Alien PS3 was created with a mass amount of epoxy and a great tribute to Giger and the Alien monster that kept us up so many years ago. The thing is, the end result of this one would be great for adults, but little kids would be afraid of picking up a controller after seeing this freaky console.

Still, you know it is something that you would easily display in your entertainment center…freaky or not!

3. PS3 Slim Laptop

These amazing sandwich bags are a sure way to keep any co-workers from getting into your lunch.

As if any introduction is needed, some individuals at work are rude enough to touch, get into or even treat themselves to your lunch. I am not sure what drives these folks into allowing themselves to eat someone else’s food without permission, but unfortunately these few do actually exist.

In order to battle them when you cannot install a video camera inside the refrigerator, these Anti Theft Bags could really do the trick. The Sandwich bags contain green splotch marks on both sides of the bag, so when a sandwich is packed in there, it looks as if it is old and rotten.

The design itself is amazing, but it does have a few possible downfalls such as a different person throwing your lunch in the garbage because of the color, or the coworker decides to take an additional step and investigate your lunch.

Wireless Road Train Concept

All those distracted drivers who try to apply makeup, attend conference calls and check their email at the wheel will be able to do so safely when the EU-funded SARTRE (Safe Road Trains for the Environment) project rolls out onto European motorways. The SARTRE is a wireless road train that allows drivers to join a convoy of commuters controlled by a lead vehicle, piloted by a professional driver.

All youd have to do is signal the driver via GPS to let him know you want to join the road train, pull up behind the train and relax as your car automatically follows the group. When you get close to your destination, you signal the driver to release your car and resume control. Details are sparse, but this concept is actually coming to EU roads soon.

Many an urban pedestrian has wished for a way to get up beyond the chaos of traffic so they can safely navigate cities without worrying about getting run over. That wish could someday come true if concepts like Schweeb, a people-powered monorail, catch on around the world. More Christmas hacks. This is a classy wreath from Claire.
“I wanted to share my ornament wreath hack with you as I’m very proud (I’m not usually so do it yourself). I bough an Ikea Glansa LED light wreath and large pack of different sized silver ornaments from Ikea. I borrowed my aunt’s hot glue gun and got to work. It turned out much better than I expected and I love that it lights up at night!”

This Floater’s for the Eye

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010 | Uncategorized | Comments Off

Sometimes you’re looking around and you get a speck of something in your eyeball sight line. It goes all over with your eye as you move your glazzies about! This is sort of like that, only it’s a cellphone. Designer Mac Funamizu totaled the amount of time he’s got his cellphone sitting on his desk for all to see to be 80% of his day. Lots of time for aesthetic beauty and interactive loveliness. This phone aims to please.

Focusing on the time the phone isn’t living in a pocket or helping a head communicate only adds up to 20% of Funamizu’s day. Other than that, it’s desk time. This phone is named “Floater” after the surfing maneuver. Don’t be dunking it in water anytime soon though, not H2O safe!

Floater A sits still on the table unless there’s a call, at which time it nods or rotates.

Floater B doesn’t move in the same way as A, instead having a supporter on the back to make the oval body stand nicely on a flat surface. Sliding the supporter the other way reveals a physical keyboard.

Expedit shelving unit as an open kitchen bar

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010 | Uncategorized | Comments Off

Solangie transformed an Expedit shelving unit into a bar counter for an open kitchen. Nice one.

“I bought the Expedit shelving unit and placed it horizontally. Then went to Home Depot and bought two peace of lumber 2×4 and made a base to bring it up by 7″. Also I got a plywood, cut it to fit the shelving unit (I wanted to hide it and not leave open on both sides) and spray painted the plywood black. I used the Lagan countertop which only cost $40 dollars for 8′. And here is my result.”

Dishy jewelry plate

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010 | Uncategorized | Comments Off

Here’s a pretty little thing from Karen.
“I wanted to share this hack because it’s so easy to do and inexpensive as well.I have tons of jewelry and was looking for a simple, pretty way to organize them. This really easy hack consists of a white porcelain 365+ series Drom side plate ($3.99) and the Neglinge candle holder (just 49 cents!).I used clear caulk to glue the two peices together (just a couple drops on the edges of the candle holder is sufficient), and now I have a small jewelry stand that I can hang earrings off of and place jewelry on.This hack can of course be done with any ikea plate (there were so many cool ones I had a hard time choosing…I’ll definitely be making more of these with larger plates considering all the jewelry I have) and any Ikea item that can be utilized as a stand.”
