32 Most Badass and Coolest Mods of 2009
Friday, February 26th, 2010 | Uncategorized | Comments Off
We all love the different entertaining electronics we own, especially our computers and our favorite video game consoles, but for some odd reason, they are still just not cool enough for a few individuals, so they end up creating some crazy mods.
It seems that as good looking as the PS3 is, as cool as the Xbox 360 is made and as customized as a PC Case could be, it is not sufficient for some. In turn, these modders end up building various PS3 Mods, Xbox 360 consoles, Nintendo and PC case mods and many more variations that may seem a little crazy at first, but end up being true masterpieces.
The bottom line is, being a gamer is not just for playing PC or video games anymore, and to prove so, we have gathered an awesome collection of the absolutely 32 Best Mods that we saw in 2009 which include examples using the PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo, PC and Macs.
If there are any that we missed, please share with us in the comments, so everyone will see as well.
Top PS3 Mods1. Steampunk PS3

This beautiful Steampunk PS3 Mod was made without taking it apart and thus voiding the warranty. All attachments were added with a vintage style that include an old radio valve, a pipe valve, a pressure gauge, assorted brass plumbing parts and some trim. The wood veneer was then aged with a few coats of varnish to give it the final touch.
In the end, the result is just phenomenal!
2. Alien Playstation 3

A scary and heavy looking Alien PS3 was created with a mass amount of epoxy and a great tribute to Giger and the Alien monster that kept us up so many years ago. The thing is, the end result of this one would be great for adults, but little kids would be afraid of picking up a controller after seeing this freaky console.
Still, you know it is something that you would easily display in your entertainment center…freaky or not!
3. PS3 Slim Laptop

Ben Heck has revisited his old video game console laptops and created a new and improved PS3 Slim Laptop, which is much lighter than before and has some better specs. This could also be seen as a wonderful way to view a home console and adapt it to the mobile world we live in today. It simply could be the best solution for die hard Playstation 3 fans to take their console on the road and have a screen and portable battery right along to play whenever they wish.
4. Microwaved PS3 Mod
Hitchhikers Guide to the Classroom
Sunday, February 21st, 2010 | Uncategorized | Comments Off
Have you seen, heard of, or otherwise experienced the “Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy?” Well this is basically it embodied in a fantastic school-desk body. Dubbed “Mesa – Classroom of 2015″ by its designer Phelan Miller, this concept is one our children will be wondering how we ever did without. Oh my goodness mother, you didn’t have the internet when you were a kid in school? How did you learn about things?
Oh my goodness mother, you didn’t have Mesa desks when you were a kid in school?
How did you learn how to spell?
Middle schoolers the world over will be tapping their way to intelligence when these fantastic items come into play. The Mesa desk comes standard with grammar check, spell check, dictionary, encyclopedia, thesaurus, and a section for math. Employed by an effective and simple touch screen with tab system, including “freewrite” ability for improving handwriting.
It even interacts with real paper, scanning it and checking it for error in a moment’s time.
Mesa desks are double wide, made for two students at a time. Tall enough to be stood by, short enough to still be realistically accessed by a person sitting in a chair.
Light and stackable.
MILLER if you make these in a way that allows schools to attain them inexpensively, I don’t see why you won’t have created an overnight sensation, changing the way the world teaches and learns.

Optimus Prime Transformers Costume is Funny and Scary at the Same Time
Saturday, December 12th, 2009 | Uncategorized | Comments Off

Sometimes while browsing the Internet you come across some of the most ridiculous things on the planet, and take for example this Optimus Prime Transformers Costume. It is an amazing costume which looks like you are Optimus Prime one minute and when you crouch down, it becomes the famous truck! It is just like Transformers truly are, transforming from one shape to another.
The robots in the Transformers show could transform into vehicles, electronic items and even humanoid figures, while retaining their robotic qualities. Likewise, this costume brings alive the 70s TV Show to the modern era and it does a great job at that! The way the man who is wearing the costume suddenly starts looking like Optimus Prime is an amazing thing to watch and I truly admire it. However, the pictures and the video are unfortunately of poor quality.

Online Sunsets: A Virtual Dusk and Dawn for the Internet Addicted

In this modern age of light pollution, cities that never sleep, 24 hour streaming TV and addictive RSS feeds, regulating one’s own circadian rhythms can be, well…difficult. And for those of us who have a computer strapped to our torsos at all times, watching a sunrise or sunset (somewhere other than Youtube) is a luxury that we are lucky to experience once in a blue moon. Luckily, the Whitney Museum of Art has developed a way for us to check out more sunsets – on their website. That’s right – EcoArtTech’s Cary Peppermint and Christine Nadir have programmed the WMA site to dim and illuminate, corresponding with New York’s real-life cycles of light.

Building Up An Appetite: Architecture With Good ‘Taste’
Wednesday, November 25th, 2009 | Uncategorized | Comments Off

Hungry for some “tasteful” architecture? These 10 mouth-watering buildings may look delicious but their designs serve a greater purpose: to project a brand image that warms the heart (while aiming for the stomach).
Asahi Beer Hall, Tokyo, Japan
(images via: Arch/Cside and CIDA)
Rising from the shores of the languidly flowing Sumida river in Tokyo, Japan, are a pair of homages to another life-giving liquid: beer. Not only do the Azumabashi Hall and the taller Asahi Breweries Head Office look like glasses of beer, they are the center of the Asahi Breweries empire located on the spot where one of Japan’s signature beers has been brewed for over a century.
(images via: Tokyo Architecture and Lone Wolf – No Cub)
It’s the Azumabashi Hall, also known as the Asahi Super Dry Hall, that gets the lion’s share of attention however. Designed by architect Phillippe Starck and completed in 1989, the building is sheathed in black granite puntuated by portaholes representing bubbles rising in a mug of beer. The controversial Flame d’Or (golden flame) on the roof is, well, open to interpretation. Weighing 300 tons and built by a subcontractor who usually builds submarines, the distinctive sculpture has been likened to foam being blown off a frosty mug of draft, the fiery spirit of Asahi’s employees and… a giant turd.
Disney’s Orange Stinger, Anaheim, CA, USA
(images via: Desktops@Rocket9, Igougo and Orange County Register)
More of a ride than a workaday building, the Orange Stinger temporarily brightened up Paradise Pier at Disney’s California Adventure Park from 2001 through July of 2009. The Orange Stinger was a lot bigger than it looked from a distance as essentially it was a standard Wave Swinger style ride with a huge, semi-peeled orange built around it.
Albion House, Liverpool, UK
(images via: National Museums Liverpool and Vintage Lulu)
Formerly the White Star Line Building where the RMS Titanic and her sister ships were conceived and controlled, Liverpool’s Albion House (built 1896) sports a trendy for its time red brick & white Portland stone exterior that reminds even the most unsavory character of fresh, streaky bacon. Mmm, bacon… it’s a pity the mighty Titanic wasn’t covered in this most meme-tastic of foods; it would have slid right on past that fateful iceberg.
(image via: Pictures Of England)
Just like the state-of-the-art ships it directed across the seven seas, the White Star Line’s headquarters was a showcase of wealth, opulence and beauty. The shipping line never really recovered from the sinking of the Titanic in 1912 and by the mid-1930s the headquarters building stood vacant. It’s a testament to the foresight of Liverpool’s city fathers that this iconic building remains standing today.
