Italian Supercar Bathroom

Two objects, both inspired by the famous car studio Pininfarina. Aerodynamical forms, fast and sporty. These lovelies come in two colors: fresh green (color of a life,) and scarlet (a traditional racing color.) Surfaces similar to racing auto varnish, nice to use, nice to race (if you’re into racing sinks, that is.)
The objects in this line consist of a W.C. pan and a wash-basin. Both objects have wall-mounted installation systems, both objects are spectacularly shiny.
Black and white mosaic wall not included.
NOTE: A message from the designer(s):
We devote this project to the memory of Andrea Pininfarina…
Lovely and slick.

Complex Apartment in Oregon from Sienna Architects
Monday, February 22nd, 2010 | Uncategorized | Comments Off
Today we would like to present some interesting apartment interiors that we think fall in the category of “complex” arrangements. That is because there ere many elements that needed to be combined and placed together in the same room. You are looking at a two-story high apartment from Portland, Oregon that was developed in a vintage building, respecting the construction’s main architecture lines. The project belongs to Sienna Architects, an architecture company from USA. It was built on a 2,200 square feet surface and the total costs were $2,035,000. Glass stairs connect the two floors and also give the place a contemporary and modern touch. Colorful elements (like the yellow armchairs and purple cushions) cheer up the room and become the focal point. Please let us know what you think.

Lavaflow 4 Fishman/Kurakawa House in Hawaii by Craig Steely Architecture
Saturday, February 20th, 2010 | Uncategorized | Comments Off

Oh boy. I leave tomorrow for my big vacation to San Diego for 3 days and then the Big Island of Hawaii for 6 days. So, in the spirit of my Hawaii trip, I bring you this beautiful home which just so happens to be on the Big Island!
The house, located in a “kipuka”, (a Hawaiian word for a strip of old growth vegetation left undisturbed as the lava flowed around it) holds several trees predating the lava flow including 2 magnificent Monkeypod trees. The house grows out of the Kipuka cantilevering back over the lava flow much like the canopy of the Monkeypod trees.

TOP GREEN ARCHITECTURE STORIES OF 2009
Sunday, January 24th, 2010 | Uncategorized | Comments Off

It’s been a big year for green architecture and a landmark decade for green building awareness. Ten years ago, most people thought green building was still some hippy-dippy exercise in building grass-covered hobbit-huts, and now we know that not only can green building be modern and chic – it is also one of the best ways to combat climate change. Our passion for green building isn’t just that we are into environmental friendliness, but because green buildings are better designed, healthier, have lower energy bills, and are just plain smart. Read on for our top 6 green architecture stories of the year, and vote on your favorite!

Amazing Eco-Walkway Bridges Gap Between City and Nature
Sunday, January 24th, 2010 | Uncategorized | Comments Off
[ Filed under Geography & Travel or in the Art & Design category ]

In a modern industrialized place like Singapore, one wouldn’t expect to find many open green spaces – especially given the extremely small size of the island coupled with its 3.2 million inhabitants. But Singapore is home to a series of truly exceptional parks that feature a breathtaking combination of nature and architecture. The Southern Ridges, an attraction located just outside of the heart of the city, offers visitors the chance to revel in nature and man-made marvels all at once.

The Southern Ridges is actually comprised of nine kilometers of green spaces connecting Mount Faber Park, Telok Blangah Hill Park, and Kent Ridge Park. The area is home to a huge array of fascinating plants and animals, including an impressive number of dragonfly species. But its most striking feature is the treetop-level walkway that crisscrosses the dense forest – a dizzying 120 feet above the forest floor.

The walkway doesn’t interfere with the natural layout of the parks or the Adinandra Belukar forest as one might suspect; in fact, the project was built to co-exist peacefully with the existing vegetation and the animals that inhabit it. Visitors are able to walk along the paths andthe lush forest while coming face-to-face with the area’s wildlife without participating in the destruction of this beautiful natural setting.

Most people embark on the Forest Walk and Canopy Walk tonature. But at the same time, the walkway offers a full view of the city. The juxtaposition of the urban jungle with the green jungle is truly remarkable, but seeing it from treetop height is an unforgettable experience. The walkway is actually a series of suspended paths that connect with other nearby paths like the Alexandra Arch and Henderson Waves, offering a well-rounded exploration of the area.

The walkway itself is open to both the sunlight and the air, offering a wholly natural experience that lets visitorsnature in a respectful way. In the evening, parts of the path are lit with a lovely color-changing LED display. And while walking so far above the ground may seem terrifying, the walkway is solidly built. But for those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground, the park also offers an Earth Trail that lets you experience the serene beauty of the area from ground level.
