Zen Habit While Dining, But Only For Kids
Tuesday, January 26th, 2010 | Uncategorized | Comments Off
I dont believe in force-feeding children, but tots try and do their best to make meal-times really hell-times. A trick that I learnt while bringing up my kids was to entertain them with fancy dining accessories, so that they would at least stick to the meal for a wee-bit longer. I used to engage them with pictorial placemats, funny-shaped plates and bowls. Co Zen Maple Lacquer Cutlery Set is for the stage when children outgrow Mothercare but still need some cajoling during meals. This sophisticated set combines the traditional sensibilities with modern expectations. While the bottom box holds the specialized cutlery, the top half easily transforms to a plate.
Overall a sleek design thats available in Japan currently.

McMario: A Cute Roly Poly Super Mario Ball
Tuesday, January 26th, 2010 | Uncategorized | Comments Off

Its always the level of obsession and the amount of leisure time one has that decides how people would nurture their obsession and so called hobbies. One of the most cherished gaming characters from the past, Super Mario Brothers, has probably witnessed some shades of love from its fans. The Super Mario Bros. Fingernail Art Design, Super Mario Rubiks Cube design and Super Mario Hydrant Art shows how gaming geeks just cant enough of the this gaming figure of the good old days.
McMario, as hailed by IIISiXII, is a cool inflated version of a winking Super Mario figure. From the looks of the image, its a little difficult to guess where this is a real object shot from a camera or just another Photoshop trick. The plastic gloss makes this look like a cute toy to play with. I am trying to figure out how its name McMario was coined. Was it because Mario had an overdose of McDonalds burger and fries leading to a pork-belly? Or, is it the title Mc that brings more oomph for our gaming hero?
Undoubtedly this isnt one of the things that gave me my perfect oh-my-God moment, because we have stumbled upon a lot of groovy stuff in the past. But the sprawling mustache around a round fat nose and the winking eyes of our new generation Mario is worth a look.

The future of transportation is undeniably green, but that doesnt mean well all be driving boring hybrid sedans. From electric cars with bizarre scales that pop up to gather solar energy to rental bicycles that harvest energy and use it to power buses, the transit of tomorrow is all about nixing fossil fuels, ceding control to computers and coming up with creatively compact designs.
A Robot that Pedals Your Bike

Want to get around on an eco-friendly bicycle, ing the breeze and seeing the community close-upbut youre too lazy to actually pedal yourself around? Then you might want to invest in your very own bicycle-pedaling robot. Joules could be your constant mechanized companion, riding on the back of a special tandem bicycle and doing all the work while youthe scenery. The bike and the robot together weigh around 200 pounds, so this is no lightweight ride, but its an intriguingand sort of frighteningconcept, all the same.
Wireless Road Train Concept

All those distracted drivers who try to apply makeup, attend conference calls and check their email at the wheel will be able to do so safely when the EU-funded SARTRE (Safe Road Trains for the Environment) project rolls out onto European motorways. The SARTRE is a wireless road train that allows drivers to join a convoy of commuters controlled by a lead vehicle, piloted by a professional driver.
All youd have to do is signal the driver via GPS to let him know you want to join the road train, pull up behind the train and relax as your car automatically follows the group. When you get close to your destination, you signal the driver to release your car and resume control. Details are sparse, but this concept is actually coming to EU roads soon.
People-Powered Monorail

Many an urban pedestrian has wished for a way to get up beyond the chaos of traffic so they can safely navigate cities without worrying about getting run over. That wish could someday come true if concepts like Schweeb, a people-powered monorail, catch on around the world. Currently a ride at a New Zealand amusement park, this pedal-powered monorail consists of a long track with individual pods hanging down, which can go up to 30 miles per hour without the rider expending too much effort.
Driverless, Self-Parking Vehicle Concept

For people whohaving a personal vehicle but dont like to drive, the Atnmblshort for Autonomobilecould be the ultimate in mindless transportation. With room for seven passengers and transparent side walls, but no driver controls, this self-parking vehicle emphasizes conversation between its occupants and focusing on the scenery rather than navigation. The designers estimate that it could be a reality by 2040.
Solar Electric Luxury CarWith Scales

With a sleek physique thats remarkably similar to that of other futuristic electric vehicle concepts, the BMW Lovos nevertheless stands out in one major way: it has scales. Solar scales, to be precise, which function as both energy producers and wind-resistance air brakes. Created by Anne Forschner, a graduate of Pforzheim University in Germany, this concept may not be the most practical or realistic electric vehicle ever designed, but it certainly has a unique look.

Verdura Resort by Olga Polizzi and Flavio Albanese
Tuesday, January 26th, 2010 | Uncategorized | Comments Off
Interior designer Olga Polizzi and architect Flavio Albanese have designed the recently opened Verdura Resort in Sicily.
Set across 230 hectares of olive groves and countryside, the rooms are in two distinct types of building, Courtyard and Landscape, which are woven subtly into the landscape and offer a real sense of privacy and space. Natural materials such as stone, sand, wood and cane echo the traditional architecture of Sicily, and rooms make imaginative use of both outdoor and indoor space.
The interiors are beautifully appointed and encapsulate The Art of Simple Luxury. She has used a rich palette of earth tones and bright printed fabrics to reflect the character of Sicily, with a design motif inspired by a classic Sicilian tile. Bedrooms feature four-poster wooden beds, polished concrete floors and artful Italian lighting, and are decorated with locally fired earthenware. The bathrooms are naturally lit with stone vanity tops, and some have outside courtyards with fig trees.

The Proust Geometrica desined by Alessandro Mendini in 1978 for the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara “was immediately recognized as an icon of twentieth century design and one of the most renowned and essential reference points in the quest for form and aesthetic perfection”. In 1993 Cappellini inherited the designand continued the tradition of hand upholstering and finishing the original Proust Geometrica armchair while refreshing them and breathing new life into the image and value of the original design. See the entire collection of distinctly Italian furniture from Cappellini Here.
